Dog Groomer Tells Us About Grooming A Cockapoo

Molly CockaPoo Before Dog GroomingThis is Molly, she’s a Cockapoo and she’s having her first grooming session, Molly is only twelve weeks old but it is very important to get them used to grooming at an early age.

Many Cockapoos love to roll around in the grass and play in the dirt. This can make them smell and their coats can become grubby, hence the requirement for frequent baths. To preserve the coats condition, owners will have to brush and comb the coat routinely and bathing your pet is essential (advisably every 4-6 weeks) preferably at a professional dog groomers.

Cockapoo’s do not shed there coats so all new hair growth grows into their present coat which can cause matts. Cockapoo’s are very prone to matting around the elbow’s, tail and beard area.

A regular cut at the dog groomers will make it much easier to keep your dogs coat clean. When the Cockapoo’s coat is much shorter it will not hold as much dirt as long and thick coats.

Cockapoo’s often get mistaken for either cocker spaniels or poodles. They have wavy loose hair and some Cockapoo’s have a Grooming a Cockapoomoustache appearance on their faces.

New puppy Cockapoo’s have a beautiful soft coat which won’t require much upkeep in the very early days until the first signs of it’s adult coat starts to appear.

Getting your puppy used to being handled for grooming from an early age is ideal, which could consist of a brushing, bathing, combing, trimming claws and maybe a fringe trim. Nonetheless at about 6 to 8 months of age your Cockapoos coat might have become rather long in length and a trim may be required for functional reasons.

At around 7 to 10 months of age your Cockapoo new puppy coat establishes into a grown-up coat and you could observe matted hair beginning to form in your dogs coat – this will be a regular occurrence throughout the Cockapoos life. Matts could appear on any part of your dog’s coat, it is vital that the owners brush them in between grooming sessions this prevents matts occurring and causes less stress to the dog when they are been groomed.
